A Pokémon set checklist can be short enough for a few binder pages or large enough for several binders. The difference often comes down to what you count: one card per number, every illustration, or every foil variation. Decide that before you start buying the last few gaps.
Pick a collecting target
A numbered set uses collector numbers as the starting point. A character collection focuses on the Pokémon you want, even if that leaves most of the expansion out. A master collection adds the parallel finishes you choose to include. Write your rule at the top of your list so it stays consistent as new cards arrive.
Leave room above the printed total
Storm Emeralda has 076 as its printed main-set denominator, while TCGdex records 113 cards. Chasing Glory’s Simplified Chinese cards use a 222-card denominator and PokiPair lists numbered entries through 287. Dividing binder space by the printed total alone can leave you short.
Sort once, then shop for gaps
Separate cards by language and code. Put duplicates aside, arrange the remaining cards by number, and record the finish when it matters to your goal. Our checklist boxes are convenient for a sorting session, but they reset on reload. Keep your lasting want list in a notebook or collection app.
Use sources to settle mismatches
Different databases may count a foil variation as a separate entry or combine it with another print. Check the card image, full number and source notes before treating a total as definitive. Gem Pack is a good example of a collection where a character list and a finish-by-finish inventory answer different questions.
Finish at your own pace
After an opening, the next useful purchase may be a small group of singles. Look for the exact gaps instead of assuming another box will supply them. That keeps a binder project tied to the cards you want and makes duplicate purchases easier to avoid.
